One detail that often escapes even the most detailed planner is the obituary. Writing an
obituary is something that can even be done prior to a death and even involve the person
that is dying.

The obituary can be as simple as a death notice containing only the name, date of death and funeral home handling the arrangements for the deceased.

It can also be very personal, becoming an intimate view of what made this person memorable to others. It can include a personal look into someone's life, stories that the family enjoy and want to share with others, a poem, a favorite expression or joke that shows his/her personality.

The obituary provides the family a way of sharing with others through the written word information about the deceased, times of the service, place of internment, and the family who survives him or her.

Follow this simple format and add or take away as you feel necessary.

Name: ______________________________________________________
Include nickname like "Freddy".
Day, date of death: ______________________________________________________
You may use words like passed away or entered heaven...
Place of death: ______________________________________________________
You may add, surrounded by family and friends, etc.
Age: ______________________________________________________
Some families do not wish to include their age, that's ok.
Date of birth: ______________________________________________________
Place of birth: ______________________________________________________
Preceded in death by: ______________________________________________________
(wife, parents, children) this information is not always placed in an obituary.

Write a short section including hobbies, military service, organizations or clubs
your loved one belonged to.
